Ariki Hita
Rik is a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and performer with over 30 years of experience in live performance, band collaboration, and original music creation. His work spans alt-rock, metal, and groove-based styles, while his solo compositions blend elements of 60’s soul, folk, reggae, country, hip hop, and blues—genres that have inspired him since childhood.
Rik began his musical journey on drums at age 11, picked up guitar at 13, and discovered a natural affinity for bass at 15. Since then, he has played in numerous bands and continues to explore diverse musical landscapes, bringing a wealth of real-world experience to his teaching.
As a tutor, Rik teaches guitar, bass, and drums, focusing on fundamentals, technique, ear training, music theory, and performance skills. He also guides students on instrument setup, maintenance, and basic repairs. His approach is highly personalised, drawing on his experience as a careworker to adapt to different learning styles and build strong rapport with students.
Rik’s lessons aim to unlock each student’s creative potential—whether that’s building confidence for live performance, supporting recording and composition, pursuing a career in music, or simply enjoying the journey for fun. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and inspiring the next generation of musicians to grow, explore, and express themselves.
Rik provides guitar and music theory lessons in the following areas:
