Max Little
Max is a professional double bassist and educator with an international performance background, holding a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Since 2022, he has built a strong career as a full-time freelance musician and private tutor, performing regularly at some of Sydney’s leading music venues.
Originally from London and raised in San Francisco, Max began his musical journey on classical piano before transitioning to double bass in his early years. His development was shaped by the vibrant California jazz scene, where he undertook advanced studies at the California Jazz Conservatory, working closely with renowned and Grammy-nominated educators including Wayne Wallace.
After performing extensively across a range of musical settings in the United States, Max relocated to Australia in 2017 to continue his studies under respected bassist Craig Scott. Today, he performs across a wide range of contexts including symphony orchestras, jazz big bands, and small ensembles, and regularly accompanies vocalists across jazz, pop, and musical theatre. His playing spans traditional New Orleans jazz, standard repertoire, and modern improvisation.
As an educator, Max draws on his real-world experience as a working musician to provide practical, high-level guidance. He supports students in developing strong technical foundations while building confidence in performance, improvisation, and musical understanding. With experience teaching a range of students, including adult learners and those preparing for auditions, Max brings a patient, structured, and engaging approach to every lesson.
