In addition to our growing list of instrument lessons, BASE Music offers music production lessons in Sydney and online to students of all ages. Taking private lessons or enrolling in a production course can be an extremely fun and exciting way to start learning live and studio production skills so you can begin creating music of your own. Our awesome team of tutors is eager to share their experience working across a wide range of musical styles and professional contexts.

Music production lessons with BASE Music go much further than generic online courses, which often lack the personal encouragement and creative feedback that helps students grow. Our music production tutors in Sydney bring real industry experience and will break down your favourite songs to help you understand their arrangement and production elements. Depending on your interests, music theory may be introduced—it’s not essential when learning music technology, but it can be incredibly useful if you're serious about becoming a music producer or DIY songwriter. Students also have the option to enrol in an online musicianship course for more formal music theory training.

Our music production teachers are experienced with industry-standard DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, as well as beginner-friendly programs like GarageBand and Audacity. These platforms can be used to produce electronic music or virtually any other genre—rock, jazz, pop, you name it. GarageBand is a great tool for kids and beginners to explore basic concepts, but more advanced high school students and adult learners are encouraged to consider investing in a DAW with broader functionality.

If you’re looking for a broader introduction to the skills needed to become a music producer—without committing to weekly one-on-one lessons—you might prefer to enrol in our online music production course. In these group classes, you’ll learn from a production tutor with real industry experience, both in live and studio settings. The lessons cover essential skills such as basic recording techniques; mixing and mastering using reverb, EQ, and compression; sound design through effects like delay and chorus; sampling for original beats and techno grooves; and crafting your own synth sounds.

Private music production lessons, on the other hand, allow you to dive deeper into these topics and more, with personalized guidance on how to apply your skills creatively across various contexts. You’ll even learn how to record and manipulate your own sounds—using household items to create drumbeats or atmospheric textures. As a BASE Music student, you’ll also gain unlimited access to our growing sample library to explore in your own time. Feel free to contribute your own samples too—we’re always excited to hear the unique sounds and concepts our students come up with.
