Smayan has been immersed in music since the age of 7, beginning with singing and picking up the guitar just a few years later at age 10 — an instrument that quickly became his passion. By the time he finished school, he was already teaching and sharing his love for music with others. Since then, Smayan has worked with students aged 6 to 40, developing a dynamic and adaptable teaching style that caters to each student’s unique learning style and goals.

Smayan holds an Acoustic Guitar Grade 5 (With Merit) and a Theory of Music Grade 2 certification through Trinity College London, providing him with a solid technical foundation. However, his philosophy goes far beyond technique — he believes the most exciting musical growth happens through creative expression, personal exploration, and collaborative learning.

During his school years, Smayan led several rock bands, gaining hands-on experience in performance, band dynamics, and musical versatility. He also assisted in his school’s music department with instrument maintenance, deepening his understanding of how to care for and optimise instruments for student use.

Smayan’s teaching approach combines strong musical fundamentals with an encouraging, student-focused attitude. He draws inspiration from artists like John Mayer, B.B. King, and Eric Clapton — and has a soft spot for anything from the ’80s and ’90s.
